Ryomen Sukuna (Japanese: 両面 宿儺, Hepburn: Ryōmen Sukuna) is a fictional character and one of the central antagonists of the manga and anime series Jujutsu Kaisen created by Gege Akutami. A Heian Era sorcerer, he was once known notoriously as the King of Curses and well known as the greatest Sorcerer to ever live. Although originally human, upon death, Sukuna sealed himself as a cursed object, wherein his immense power divided within 20 fingers. At the beginning of the story, Yuji Itadori eats one of Sukuna's fingers, becoming his Vessel and bringing Sukuna back to life.

In the anime adaptation, he is voiced by Junichi Suwabe in Japanese and Ray Chase in English. Sukuna's sadistic and "terrifying" demeanor as the series' villain was praised, along with the dual nature of his relationship with Yuji.

Concept and creation[edit]

According to Akutami, Sukuna is "less of a sorcerer and more of a walking disaster." Sukuna was created as a cruel, narcissistic, depraved and supremely arrogant figure within the story. The real person turned mythological figure "Ryōmen-sukuna [ja]," who was the character's inspiration, traces back to the classical Japanese book Nihon Shoki, where Sukuna's fantasized physical figure (two faces and four arms) and malicious demonic personality are shared with the character. In ancient history, Sukuna was an enemy to the Yamato family but was also worshiped by some as a deity, though his association with demonic imagery was formed after the Imperial House of Japan declared him a vicious force of nature. His given name, Ryomen, means "two-faced," which can be applied to the character both literally and figuratively.[1][2][3][4] Sukuna did not ever have a wife or family in his life as a human, and that he was feared as a human less than Satoru Gojo due to how vicious the world of Curses was at the time he lived.[5] Furthermore, Gege stated Sukuna "will kill anybody in an instant" and that he has no morals, taking pleasure out of making things tough for Yuji.[6][7]

According to his English voice, Ray Chase, his favorite aspect of the character was his relationship with Yuji sharing the same body, saying that "Sukuna has such a different view of pain, power, life, than Itadori, as he has existed for more than one thousand years. It’s a kind of maturity that allows the villain to mistreat the hero in so many ways." Chase hoped that Sukuna could defeat Gojo so that Yuji could gain the power to defeat Sukuna in his "mind palace."[8] In another interview, Chase said that he took inspiration from the Japanese dub to differentiate between Sukuna and Yuji as they share a body. Chase said that " it’s fun to have lots of asides about how pathetic Itadori is under your breath! I’d say ultimately it falls on the show being well written and paced which makes Sukuna especially fun whenever he shows up." In forming a voice for Sukuna, Chase felt that he had to do "a weird and interesting voice for him [that is] not very anime at all, and definitely not one that I’ve used before. He’s got a timelessness to him which helps as he’s a thousand years old, but also with kind of a New York attitude for his more disdainful moments."[9]

Appearances[edit]

Over a thousand years ago, during the heian era, Sukuna was a powerful curse user, served by an underling named Uraume. At the beginning of the story, his power is sealed in 20 wax fingers scattered throughout the world. Megumi Fushiguro traces one of his fingers to Sugisawa High School. In an attack by cursed spirits, Yuji Itadori eats the finger and becomes a Jujutsu Sorcerer, with Sukuna regaining consciousness within him.[10] Though Yuji has full control over his body, he is targeted for execution due to the danger Sukuna poses, with Satoru Gojo's patronage as his only protection.

In a mission to contain a Special Grade Cursed Spirit, Yuji and his colleagues are greatly endangered, so the young sorcerer gives Sukuna control of his body, to defeat his assailant. Sukuna destroys the opponent, but seizes the moment of freedom to rip out Yuji's heart, and attempts to kill Fushiguro, becoming very interested in the latter. When Yuji wrestles back control to save his friend, he dies, and meets Sukuna within his soul. Sukuna offers to return Yuji to life, but persuades him to accept a deal allowing Sukuna brief control on one more occasion. Sukuna remains silent from then on, only roused by an encounter with the Cursed Spirit Mahito, in which he mocks Yuji for losing a friend.[11]

In the Shibuya Incident, Yuji is gravely injured, and the Cursed Spirit Jogo force-feeds him many of Sukuna's fingers. Sukuna, indifferent to Jogo, kills him after a very destructive battle across the city.[12] He reunites with Uraume after the battle, and states he has a plan to regain freedom. He then saves Megumi from Mahoraga, his summoned Shikigami, catastrophically razing much of Shibuya ward in the process, before surrendering control back to a traumatized Yuji.[13]

During the climax of the Culling Games arc, Sukuna forcibly steals Megumi Fushiguro's body by feeding Megumi a finger, and fought the post-awakened Maki Zenin and Yuji Itadori, before fleeing with Uraume. To fully crush Fushiguro's spirit into submission, he kills his sister Tsumiki, who had been similarly possessed by the sorcerer Yorozu. After some time, Sukuna saves Kenjaku from being attacked by the freshly unsealed Satoru Gojo and then they agree on a duel on 24th December 2018.

In the Shinjuku Incident Arc, Sukuna, having achieved his full power, fought Satoru Gojo in a neck to neck battle of constant Domain Clashes, with Sukuna using Mahoraga to counter Gojo's powers. Seemingly defeated, Sukuna adapts to Gojo's Cursed Technique, and kills the sorcerer. Sukuna is then challenged by another Culling Game opponent, Hajime Kashimo, who forces him to return to his true four-armed form. Yuji Itadori challenges Sukuna again with Hiromi Higuruma, the latter using his domain trying to weaken Sukuna's power by charging him of his crimes in a court case.

Reception[edit]

Sukuna's arrogance and "almost casual display of handling immense Cursed Energy" was praised by Sportskeeda, also calling him "awe-inspiring and terrifying" as well as "the ultimate anime villain," labeling him as one of the most beloved shonen villains.[14] Chingy Nea of Polygon praised the way Sukuna was a "cruel and emotionless sadist" and how he helped the anime "feign predictability" by having him kill Yuji early on in the story.[15] Sukuna's awakening in Yuji's body was described "disgusting and fantastic."[16] David Eckstein-Schoemann of the UNF Spinnaker praised the duality between main character and protagonist. He said that "you think of all the possibilities...and they take full advantage of that. The conflict and interactions between Yuji and Sukuna are both creative and brilliant. It plays a lot with your expectations."[17] The character and Chase's performance in the dub was praised: "[he] lights up the screen as a newly incarnated Cursed Spirit, Ryomen Sukuna, as an elated insatiable animal that takes pleasure in grazing on the fear and flesh of humans and fills Fushiguro with a sense of dread of what’s to come."[18] The character was also compared to Bleach's protagonist Ichigo Kurosaki and his Hollow persona due their parallels especially in his early appearances; such being young fighters who develop supernatural powers as well as evil alter-egos in order to protect people from giant monsters.[19] Comic Book Resources compared Itadori's temptation to use Sukuna as temptation similar to other shōnen heroes such Ichigo's Hollow persona as analysis of how everybody has inner conflicts.[20]

In a Viz Media popularity poll conducted in March 2021, Sukuna was voted as the ninth most popular character in the series.[21] In a second poll taken in December 2021 by Shonen Jump, he was voted the 13th most popular character.[22]

The King of Curses, Sukuna is among the strongest characters in the entirety of Jujutsu Kaisen, possibly being rivaled only by Satoru Gojo. Sukuna has some really incredible powers up his sleeve that he has showcased so far in the story.

Related Jujutsu Kaisen: 7 Strongest Characters Fought By Sukuna   These Jujutsu Kaisen characters caused Sukuna the most trouble.

He possesses an incredible amount of expertise when it comes to cursed techniques as well as the utilization of cursed energy. While Sukuna has not shown his entire arsenal to the fans, there are quite a lot of incredible techniques that he has demonstrated already, and some of them are strong enough to kill anyone standing in his path.

Updated on November 30, 2023, by Rei Penber: Sukuna is one of the strongest characters in Jujutsu Kaisen and, with time, fans have been getting more and more information about the level of strength that he possesses. Sukuna has been seen in various fights over the course of the last few arcs in the story and, with him recently entering his reincarnated state in the manga, fans know more about his abilities than ever before. While this list already goes over the strongest powers of Sukuna, more information is now available on the kind of attacks that he possesses. With that said, this list has now been updated.

13 Dismantle

Sukuna Can Cut Inanimate Objects

Dismantle is the regular slash-based attack that Sukuna uses on anyone in his vicinity. He can use this powerful technique to chop anyone and everyone in half. Dismantle is an incredibly dangerous power and it differs from Cleave in the sense that it usually attacks inanimate objects.

For any inanimate object in Sukuna's vicinity, Dismantle can get the job done. This attack makes Sukuna deadly for even those without cursed energy as they would simply be recognized as inanimate objects in his vicinity by Dismantle. This is an incredible power that has even given trouble to the likes of Gojo.

12 Cursed Tool Kamutoke

Sukuna Can Use Lightning

Sukuna possesses two cursed tools and one of them has already been seen in action in the manga. When Sukuna entered his reincarnated state in the fight against Kashimo, he was granted access to his cursed tool, Kamutoke. This is an incredibly dangerous cursed tool the rank of which is unknown, however, it will likely be classified as a Special Grade Cursed Tool, if not higher.

This cursed tool allows Sukuna to attack with lightning-based techniques. Thankfully for Kashimo, he was resistant to those attacks given that his cursed technique itself was based on lightning. However, in combat against anyone else, Kamutoke can do great damage.

11 Incredible Amounts Of Cursed Energy

Sukuna Can Keep Fighting For Long

One of the best powers that Sukuna has is an immeasurable amount of cursed energy. His cursed energy is far more than anyone has seen in the entirety of Jujutsu Kaisen so far. In fact, his cursed energy levels are far more than that of Satoru.

What's more, his control over this cursed energy is also incredibly immense. Even Yuta, who possesses a tremendous amount of cursed energy, openly exclaimed that Sukuna has twice or more times cursed energy than he does and the control that he possesses over this cursed energy is also likely much superior.

10 Domain Amplification

Sukuna Can Counter Cursed Techniques

Domain amplification is an incredible ability that is very useful when fighting against cursed techniques and Domain Expansions in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen. It is no surprise that Sukuna can use domain amplification and do so very well.

In his fight against Satoru Gojo, fans saw him use domain amplification to counter Satoru's Limitless. By virtue of this technique, he could make contact with Satoru and even injure him severely. Being the King of Curses, Sukuna is most likely one of the very best users of domain amplification in the entire series.

9 Cleave

Sukuna Can Cut Anyone

Cleave likely makes use of Sukuna's Innate technique, which is unknown at the moment, and sees him slice about his targets effortlessly. Even strong Special Grade curse users cannot escape the ferocity of this technique and fans have already seen what it can do to the targets.

Related Jujutsu Kaisen: Gege Akutami Drops Major Hint About Gojo's Return Gojo Satoru's return is clear in JJK.

Sukuna is exceptionally good at slicing his targets apart with invisible slashes and this technique takes that to the very next level and dices the bodies of his opponents.

8 Fire Arrow

Sukuna Can Incinerate Anyone

Sukuna can also use powerful pyrokinetic abilities, such as Fire Arrow. Jogo, who is an incredibly immense user of pyrokinetic curse techniques, realized that Sukuna's Fire Arrow is even more dangerous.

Sukuna is known to be able to manipulate these flames and form them into an arrow to fire from a distance. These flames burn immensely hot and even special-grade curses cannot escape its wrath.

7 Unlimited Incantations

Sukuna Can Launch Maximum Output Attacks

One of the greatest powers that Sukuna possesses is the ability to chant incantations all the while when fighting. However, this ability can only be used by him in his true form. For any sorcerer, using incantations is extremely important. This allows them to bring the maximum output of their cursed techniques and deliver deadly blows.

Related Jujutsu Kaisen Hints At Gojo's Return As A Villain Gojo Satoru will probably return as a villain in JJK.

Since Sukuna has four arms and 2 mouths, he can continue fighting while chanting incantations continuously and this is what truly separates him from the rest. This makes him one of the deadliest users of Jujutsu sorcery.

6 Reverse Cursed Technique

Sukuna Can Heal

Reverse Cursed Technique makes use of positive energy and allows for healing in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen. Sukuna is exceptionally adept at using Reverse Cursed Technique as well, and fans got a glimpse of that when he healed Yuji's body from the state of death after a Binding Wow with him.

He can also heal himself from any injuries and, more recently, he even picked up the technique to refill his burnt-up cursed energy, something that Satoru did before him. Sukuna is exceptional at using Reverse Cursed Technique and with time, his usage of it is only getting even better.

5 Healing Others With RCT

Sukuna Can Heal Others

Sukuna is one of the very few sorcerers capable of using reverse cursed technique and, at the same time, doing so at the highest level. While the vast majority of the sorcerers use reverse cursed technique on themselves, Sukuna can also use it on others.

Fans have seen him use this power in the Shibuya arc when he used it to save the life of Megumi after the fight against Mahoraga concluded. Sukuna also managed to learn how to replenish his burnt out cursed energy after observing Gojo use this skill again and again.

4 Mahoraga

Sukuna Can Summon Mahoraga

While not his own technique, Sukuna, when taking control of the body of Megumi, can call the Divine General Mahoraga. Fans know Mahoraga to be exceptionally powerful and the strongest of the 10 Shadows Technique. It is also known to be an uncontrollable beast and, throughout history, nobody has been able to assert total control over it.

While Sukuna has dealt with Mahoraga himself in the past, he can now make use of it in combat. In his fight against Satoru Gojo, Sukuna made use of Mahoraga when he was struck with Unlimited Void and successfully managed to counter Gojo's Domain Expansion.

3 Reincarnation

Sukuna Can Reincarnate Once

Reincarnation is a power that Sukuna can only use once. This ability was used by him after his fight against Gojo concluded. At this point, Sukuna would have died had he not reincarnated while fighting against Kashimo. Kashimo was causing all sorts of trouble for Sukuna, who, at this point, was in the body of Megumi.

When he realized that this wasn't enough, Sukuna finally tapped into his trump card and reincarnated. This completely refreshed his cursed energy reserves as well as his Reverse Cursed Technique output, healing him of all injuries and any exhaustion. Essentially, this technique puts Sukuna as his strongest, taking away all the damage that he endured.

2 Malevolent Shrine

Sukuna Can Use Domain Expansion

Malevolent Shrine is Sukuna's strongest technique and also has Domain Expansion. This technique sees him land surefire hits on his enemies, with powerful techniques such as Dismantle and Cleave. Malevolent Shrine sees him use these techniques repeatedly until the target is utterly decimated and that, in itself, is a very overpowered ability.

It is believed that Sukuna's Malevolent Shrine is just as refined as Satoru Gojo's Unlimited Void, however, Satoru believes his innate ability is superior to that of Sukuna.

1 World-Splitting Slash

Sukuna Can Cut The World

Quite easily the strongest technique that Sukuna possesses at the moment, the world splitting slash is the ability that he used to defeat Gojo. This ability is so strong that it targets the fabric of space and the entire world itself.

Essentially, anything that exists in the world is a target for this technique and that is what makes it truly dangerous.

So far, this technique has been used twice. It ended the life of Gojo when the two collided and, later on, it was used against Kashimo who, surprisingly, easily dodged it, which is rather bizarre, given that Gojo had access to Six Eyes yet could not see this coming. Nonetheless, this is a very powerful technique and likely the strongest in Sukuna's arsenal.

Myth and History: Jujutsu Kaisen's Ryomen Sukuna

by Lance Gose, Mar 7th 2022

To say Jujutsu Kaisen is a popular anime and manga series is akin to calling the Mariana Trench a little deeper than a kiddie pool. With its bombastic action and fascinating cast of characters, there's plenty to love in this world of specters and sorcerers, as I'm sure its legions of fans can attest. Though with all that said, it might not be so cool if you're one of the people who are unlucky enough to find themselves sharing the same dimension as a certain sadistic King of Curses.

Jujutsu Kaisen centers around Yuji Itadori, a teenager with all the charm of a puppy combined with the brute strength of a gorilla. Despite his near-superhuman attributes, Yuji is a kind-hearted boy who prefers to spend his days goofing off with his friends in the Occult Club. However, after a series of unfortunate events leads to him swallowing a cursed object, his body becomes a host for Ryomen Sukuna, a powerful specter with an ego big enough to swallow the sun and a preference for human skulls in his interior décor.

Ryomen Sukuna's personality in Jujutsu Kaisen can be described as utterly malicious, and even that is perhaps being too generous. Narcissistic, vicious and depraved—Jujutsu Kaisen's creator Gege Akutami described Ryomen Sukuna as less of a sorcerer and more of a walking disaster. As an example of his ruthlessness, Ryomen Sukuna likened his planned victims to maggots and even mocked a grieving Yuji after the death of Yoshino Junpei, relishing Yuji's suffering like a child with a hose drowning an already half-collapsed anthill. Unfortunately, Ryomen Sukuna's arrogance is backed up by his immense strength. Few could hope to amuse the King of Curses when he was alive, much less match his overwhelming power. As it was, it took the combined might of many jujutsu sorcerers to finally put him down, and this happened during the Golden Age of Jujutsu when the average sorcerer was much more powerful than their modern counterparts.

Yet for all Ryomen Sukuna's magnificent devilry, the ancient figure whom he's named after is shrouded in a lot of mystery, with some legends even treating this mythical Sukuna as a hero rather than a demon.

The earliest historical mention of the mythological Sukuna came from the Nihon Shoki, a document compiled by the Imperial family of Japan in 720, during the Nara period. This Sukuna shared much of the physical characteristics of his manga counterpart, including his two faces and four arms plus an additional pair of legs. He was said to have been at least three meters tall, and capable of wielding a bow, arrow, and swords with superhuman strength. The Nihon Shoki also labeled him as a rebel who refused to bow to the Imperial seat, casting him as a murderous dissident who killed thousands upon thousands, and was only stopped when the Emperor sent Shogun Takefurukuma no Mikoto to kill him. So far, not out of character considering what fans know about Ryomen Sukuna from Jujutsu Kaisen.

However, there are some inconsistencies with that story. The Nihon Shoki places Sukuna in the Hida province, in what is now the northern portion of Japan's Gifu Prefecture. If he were truly a bloodthirsty raider, stories of his brutality likely would have spread especially far in the region where he was most active. Yet the locals of Hida worship Sukuna not as a wrathful asura, but as a benevolent guardian. Far from the barbarity displayed by Jujutsu Kaisen's Ryomen Sukuna, the mythological Sukuna is said to have introduced Buddhism to Hida and built the ancient temple of Senkou-Ji. Some folk stories even say he slew an evil dragon and was one of the incarnations of the Boddhisatva of Mercy, Kannon. Not the sort of saintly behavior you would expect for the source material of the King of Curses.

A possible reason for this incongruency can be found in local legends. Allegedly, the Sukuna in the Nihon Shoki was either the name of the ruling figure or the ruling family of the lands around Hida, rather than a demonic bandit/walking disaster/sorcerer. However, when the Yamato Imperial Family invaded and took over the territory, they also spread a piece of propaganda claiming Sukuna was an evil specter who terrorized the people of Hida, further justifying their hostile takeover to the masses. Considering the Nihon Shoki was edited specifically by the emperor's family, the Yamato line would certainly have the motive and the means to depict Sukuna in the worst light possible. This might even be why Sukuna eventually received the moniker ‘Ryomen’, as Ryomen can be translated to mean two-faced, referencing both his literal two faces and contrasting reputations.

Despite his status as a local hero, Sukuna's representation in popular culture has mostly fallen in line with the Nihon Shoki's descriptions, with works often depicting Sukuna as a malignant or demonic force bent on causing as much suffering as possible. To the point that Jujutsu Kaisen's Ryomen Sukuna's nickname as a ‘walking calamity’ arose from its influence, Gege Akutami cited an urban myth from 2005 as one of the sources for his antagonist in an interview with Mando Kobayashi. The legend itself mentions a mummified corpse with two faces, four arms and two legs, eerily familiar traits to those who know of Sukuna's legend. People who laid eyes on the mummy were rumored to meet extreme misfortune or sometimes die, and any place that held it was inevitably met with a catastrophic calamity. In the urban legend, the mummy's curse might have even caused the Great Kanto Earthquake in Japan's Taisho era (1912-1926), where a 7.9 magnitude quake devastated Tokyo and its surrounding regions.

Akutami might have also referenced this in the cover art of the very first chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen, where a four-eyed mummy can be seen in the garb of a sokushinbutsu—Buddhist monks who secluded themselves in the mountains, fasting and chanting mantras until they died in the hopes of reaching enlightenment. Due to their strict diet of pine needles, resins, and seeds, their bodies would shrivel up like mummies but become resistant to decomposition, preserving their remains even centuries after they completed the ritual. While Jujutsu Kaisen's Ryomen Sukuna probably didn't decide to atone for the mountain of bodies left in his wake by shaving his head and becoming a monk, some elements of the manga—particularly with the design of the cursed objects known as Sukuna's fingers—likely took inspiration from sokushinbutsu.

Though this origin story gives an intriguing look into the chaotic time of the Yamato period, it also isn't the only possible explanation. Another theory states that the Nihon Shoki's Sukuna is a representation of the two brothers Oousu no Mikoto and Ousu no Mikoto. Interestingly, Oousu and Ousu were considered twin brothers in the Kojiki—the oldest surviving historical document of Japan. However, after Oousu the elder began to act out, their father asked Ousu if he could teach his twin some manners. In the legend, Oousu allegedly gave a thumbs-up to daddy dearest, calmly sat his brother down, then proceeded to cut off his limbs and dispose of him in an unmarked location.

This gruesome story might even be the inspiration not only for Ryomen Sukuna's ruthless nature but also his absurd strength in Jujutsu Kaisen, as Maki and Mai revealed that twins are perceived as a singular being in terms of cursed energy, meaning the death of one twin would further strengthen the surviving sibling. One popular fan theory proposes that Ryomen Sukuna might have eaten his twin in the womb, which is why he gained such immense power along with extra appendages, not to mention his unnerving taste for human flesh. That said, the perks of fratricide aside, very little about Ryomen Sukuna's backstory has been revealed in the manga, so fans ought to take this theory with a bucket of salt.

Though there are multiple parallels between Jujutsu Kaisen's Ryomen Sukuna and the Nihon Shoki's Sukuna, there may still be another reason for the similarities altogether, as Akutami's supernatural battle shonen is still a developing work. Whatever the case, I'll be here waiting for more insight into Jujutsu Kaisen's world of curses and sorcerers, and I encourage others to join me in this experience. I can only hope readers will find themselves harboring a new appreciation for the culture and history that led to the creation of one of modern manga's most notorious villains.

Sukuna, also known as Ryomen Sukuna, is a prominent antagonist in "Jujutsu Kaisen," a widely celebrated anime and manga series created by Gege Akutami. Set in a world where curses and sorcerers exist, "Jujutsu Kaisen" explores dark themes through its intricate storytelling and character development. Sukuna, known as the "King of Curses," is a character whose depth, power, and influence make him a cornerstone of the series' narrative and thematic exploration.

Background and Mythological References

Ryomen Sukuna was once a human sorcerer of unparalleled might, living over a thousand years ago. After his death, he became a cursed spirit, and his body was dismembered into 20 individual fingers, each serving as a potent cursed object. This background sets the stage for the series' events, as the hunt for Sukuna's fingers drives much of the plot. The character's name and dual-natured appearance are inspired by a figure from Japanese folklore, also named Ryomen Sukuna, further enriching the series' cultural tapestry.

Appearance and Personality

Sukuna's design is a testament to his demonic and menacing nature. He is depicted as a four-armed demon with two faces, symbolizing his immense power and dual nature. His personality is characterized by arrogance, cunning, and a penchant for cruelty. Sukuna often displays a sadistic sense of humor and takes pleasure in chaos and destruction. Despite his malevolence, he possesses a deep understanding of jujutsu and cursed techniques, making him a formidable and intelligent antagonist.

Role in the Story

Sukuna's influence in "Jujutsu Kaisen" is profound. He is introduced as an antagonist, but his role evolves as the series progresses. His reincarnation in modern times through Yuji Itadori, the protagonist, is pivotal to the storyline. Sukuna's occasional control over Yuji's body introduces significant challenges and moral dilemmas, both for Yuji and the supporting characters.

Interaction with Yuji Itadori

The dynamic between Sukuna and Yuji is one of the most intriguing aspects of the series. While Sukuna regards Yuji merely as a host, there are instances where his actions suggest a more complex relationship. This interplay adds a compelling layer to the narrative, with Yuji constantly struggling to assert his will over Sukuna's overpowering presence.

Influence on Other Characters

Sukuna's impact extends to a wide array of characters, including both sorcerers and curses. His fearsome reputation and raw power are sources of concern and strategy for many characters. His interactions, especially with characters like Megumi Fushiguro and Nobara Kugisaki, demonstrate his influence and the threat he poses in the jujutsu world.

Powers and Abilities

As the "King of Curses," Sukuna's abilities are vast and fearsome. His cursed energy is immense, allowing him to perform a range of powerful cursed techniques. He possesses extraordinary physical strength, agility, and regenerative capabilities, making him nearly invincible in combat. His mastery of space manipulation and energy projection further cements his status as one of the most powerful entities in the series.

Character Development

Sukuna's character development is nuanced and integral to the series' progression. While his core nature remains consistent, his interactions and evolving circumstances reveal different aspects of his character. This development is not only crucial to the plot but also adds layers to Sukuna's personality, making him a more complex and engaging character.

Relationships

Sukuna's relationships are primarily antagonistic, yet they are multi-dimensional and contribute to his character depth. His disdain for humanity contrasts with his occasional fascination with certain individuals, adding to his enigmatic allure. These relationships, whether hostile or intriguingly ambivalent, are central to understanding Sukuna's character and his role in the narrative.

Cultural Significance

In popular culture, particularly within the anime and manga communities, Sukuna has become an iconic figure. He embodies the archetype of a powerful, malevolent force with a strategic and complex mind. His character design and traits have been praised for their originality and impact, solidifying him as a standout character in "Jujutsu Kaisen."

Conclusion

Sukuna from "Jujutsu Kaisen" represents a multi-layered character, pivotal to the series' narrative and thematic exploration. His role as the "King of Curses" and his intricate relationship with the protagonist and other characters make him central to the series' dynamics. Through Sukuna, "Jujutsu Kaisen" delves into themes of power, morality, and the blurred line between humanity and monstrosity. His presence not only propels the plot butalso enriches the story with complexity and intrigue, securing his place as a memorable and influential character in the anime and manga world.

Sukuna Ryoumen

Sukuna Ryoumen (両面 宿儺)Known as the undisputed King of Curses (呪いの王), Sukuna, according to legend, was a demon (though in truth was a human Sorcerer) during the prime era of Sorcery 1000 years ago, and Sorcerers gave their all to defeat him. After his death, his corpse was unable to be fully destroyed, and thenceforth his remains of 20 fingers, preserved in grave wax, traversed the ages as Cursed Objects. In the present, Sukuna was incarnated into Yuuji Itadori due to the latter eating one of his cursed fingers, which contain his fragmented power.

Sukuna has now forced Megumi Fushiguro into becoming his vessel, replacing Yuuji Itadori. He gains the Ten Shadows Technique through this.
